I'm a messy gardener. Don't let the lovely macros I sometimes deliver to my photo blog fool you. Over-all, my garden is low-budget, low-maintenance and there are times when I talk to the weeds. :-)

A journal of our humble New England garden. Dedicated to W.P., with love.

Roaming the Forest Floor

Our backyard was created to look like the Maine woods. There are a ton of pines surrounding the property and a couple of oak trees that shed so many acorns, it's hard to go barefoot. Occasionally I get pelted on the head by a fast-flying acorn! In places, the grass has turned to moss and the feel is really that of being in the woods.

Here a few photos taken the other day of the ground cover and whatever else I come upon as compose this post!

I'm not sure what this bush is called but it starts turning red in early Autumn

In the garden, the sunflowers are fading...

but a couple of roses are still blooming lovely.

Thanks for viewing!

Your garden is very woodsy and lovely. I wish I had enough property to create an evergreen woodsy area!
The flowers are lovely too and wonderfully photographed. If the shrub is a euonymus "burning bush" you might want to take care that it doesn't escape into the wild!
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I've visited your other blog before but didn't realize you had a gardening one as well. I live in what is referred to as the Upper Valley in NH, though the CT river valley goes far north of here. Its a population swelling where interstates and rivers both converge.

Paul - we are practically neighbors, then! I will look into what that bush is called. Thank you!

Louis - you're welcome. If you visit my blogs The Pagan's Eye and The Pagan Sphinx, you will have a better sense of "my world", both inner and outer.

A rose, even in the full of Fall, maintains its fresh beauty. All else, even a shedded feather, whilts and shrinks to sleep. Beautiful series, Ms. P.

Your rose is beautiful perfection! I see nothing "messy" about your gardens. Looks great!

I wish that blogger let me know I have comments. They don't appear in email or on the dashboard, so I forget to check here sometimes. To my surprise there are 15 comments here! Wow! Thank you!!

A lovely series of flowers. Even the sunflower in it's decline is a thing of great beauty. I would be very happy in your garden.

What a lovely blog, your garden is just my style. We live in Ireland and have 5 acres, much of which is quite wild. I love wooded areas too. Thank you so much for your comment about Lu and for your thoughts. It means a lot.

You are doing what my husband and I do all the time. He is a hard core hiker - hiked the Appalachian Trail - and we love to go walking and shoot at our feet as well as over our heads. The forest is the perfect spot for people who love their cameras. This is lovely. Genie
