Back to the Garden

 We've neglected to plant vegetables, in favor of flowers but this year decided to put some tomato plants in. Next year I'd like to add a few more veggies.

 There are only a few roses blooming at the moment. This is a mini rose bush that my daughter gave to me on Mother's Day a couple of years ago. I need to think on what to plant that will bloom and bloom through July and August. In New England, of course. Any suggestions?

Now I sound like a dotty old garden lady!  ;-)

It's been years since I planted a pumpkin seed. I'd forgotten how much room they take up!

Our backyard was created to look like the Maine woods. There are a ton of pines surrounding the property and a couple of oak trees that shed so many acorns, it's hard to go barefoot. Occasionally I get pelted on the head by a fast-flying acorn! In places, the grass has turned to moss and the feel is really that of being in the woods.

Here a few photos taken the other day of the ground cover and whatever else I come upon as compose this post!

but a couple of roses are still blooming lovely.

The sunflowers are happy this year. Interesting to note that their faces like to face north. Not sure why. 

And a priceless yellow rose. My favorite rose color.

Reminiscing on July's Garden

The little victory roses also seem to like it in the back garden, despite the sandy soil. Must be all the southern sunshine. I have several of these now, as SG2 gave me four for Mother's Day.

 I can never remember the real name for these lilies. I call them tiger lilies.
